Yep... that's Anya on a police motorcycle at 8pm! :) How about I go back to the beginning? We had just left Nathan's mom's house and were driving back to my mom's house. It was about 8 at night, which, if you know my kids, you know this is an hour past their bedtime. But, we were enjoying family time so much this past week that we stayed a little later.
When we were about 5 minutes from my mom's, Anya saw a motorcycle cop out her window. She asked if we would roll down her window so she could wave to him. We did, she waved, and he waved back. Then we turned left and the cop went through the light.
Out of my side mirror I noticed he was cutting through a tire shop on the corner and turned onto the street we were going down. I got paranoid and told Nathan that I thought he was following us. Nathan just brushed it off. Next thing I know the cop turns on his lights and is pulling us over!!!
I asked Nathan if he was speeding and he said no. Then I wondered if it was illegal to wave to a cop. (Dumb, I know, but I am a paranoid person!) We pull into a vacant parking lot and the cop comes over to talk to us. He asks the kids names and then reaches into his pocket, pulls out a coin, and hands it to Anya. He said he was saving it for someone special and that she made his night by waving to him.
Then he asked if they could get out of the car. He proceeded to put them on his bike, let them wear his helmet, and even turn on the lights!!! Eric, being Eric, started messing with buttons and accidentally turned on the pursuit siren! IT WAS LOUD!
The coolest part (which I don't have any pictures of) was when he walked Anya and Eric to the street and let them use his radar gun on passing cars! Anya is obsessed with telling us the speed limit, so she liked using the radar gun. The first car passing was going 36, so he was good. The next person was going 40 something (speed limit was 40) and Anya said "Uh oh... that's not good."
It was such a great experience for the kids and it was super awesome of Officer McGillis to do this for them. Oh, and they got "Junior Officer" sticker badges. WAY COOL!
Enough rambling.... more pictures! (The black and white pictures are from Officer McGillis's phone... he was cool enough to email them to us! And, yes, a commendation letter was sent to the Phoenix PD! )

That is the coolest thing I have ever heard. So cute. I will have to tell Mark about it so he has somethig to aspire to. Although, he is so busy here I doubt he would have time to do something like that. I love that you thought you couldn't wave to police officers hahaha. You are awesome.
That is so awesome! There needs to be more people like that in the world. What an amazing memory you guys got to make as a family that night :)
First, I'm glad your recent cop experience was WAY better than my most recent one (yes I'm still pissed about my ticket back in JULY!) :) Second, that is the coolest thing EVER! You didn't tell me you asked Nate if it was illegal to wave to a cop HILARIOUS. Only Cristine!!! That is going to be the dopest scrap page! (So bring your stuff to GA so we can do it together!) Love you guys!
I seriously wouldnt have let my kids wave at a cop, I am too nervous for any cops to look at me driving or something.. I had a cop pull me over when I turned a corner, he said I was swerving, I said.. I just turned a corner.. he said, have you been drinking? I said, no Im mormon.. he said oh really, what ward are you in... I answered and he let me go.. haha, seriously.. I get too nervous! haha
what a great cop though to let the kids get on the bike.. he must have had a great night!
